Aneta Karaskiewicz-Cox, M.A., LMFT has several years of mental therapy experience treating people of all ages, backgrounds, and issues in the Los Angeles area. She currently works at Naples Marriage and Family Therapy in Long Beach, CA.

Aneta has a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Masters’ Degrees in both Psychology and Marriage Family Therapy. Three years of her undergraduate training and work included Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) where she worked with autistic children.

The postgraduate part of her training consisted of working in a school setting where she provided psychotherapy for adolescents. Aneta continued to fulfill California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) requirements for licensure at a Neuropsychology Center with a heavy emphasis on psychoanalysis, while supervised by a Jungian analyst. She uses a variety of therapeutic techniques, but naturally leans toward existentialism.

“Through my work as a psychotherapist and interest in human behavior I have noticed a lack in areas of self-respect, self-appreciation, self-acceptance, self-proficiency, not feeling good enough…essentially, lack of self-love.

“The struggles usually stem from upbringing and the relationships with caretakers. When a person enters adulthood and tries to make sense out of life and reality, the childhood manifests itself in self-image.

“These beliefs (schemas) and feelings of self are often distorted and result in significantly diminished quality of life. The premise is to know your true self, know who you are, and know who you are not. Insight and self-awareness bring strength.

“Not knowing who you are puts you in a vulnerable state of mind, often leaving you feeling inferior with low self-esteem and distorted beliefs about yourself. Knowing who you are does not allow other people to determine who you are.

“Bottom line: the most important relationship you will ever have is the relationship with yourself. You are the person you spend the most time with and communicate with, which also means that the most important communication you have is with yourself.

“Commitment filled with love, high internal standards, and insight is your job to pursue and the ultimate choice.”
